Excerpt: Forgiveness Will Set You Free

Part Three: Fighting for What You Want

Its better to fight for something,
than to live for nothing,
than to walk away.
Life is limited,
but love knows no boundaries.
So if you love something, fight for it.
If you dont,
dont cry over what you have lost.
If you are unwilling to fight for love,
you dont deserve it!

June 2nd: Kurt
I woke to the fierce banging on the door.
“Open up this is the Gestapo!
I launched myself from the bed, my cheek still throbbing from Maxs attack. The banging continued.
Ilsa wake up,I said nudging her with my arm.
I stood up and went to the window, closing the shades.
Kurt?I heard Ilsa question as she rubbed her eyes.
Get up,I said, The Gestapo are here.
    What!she shouted over the knocking.
I jumped towards her, my hand covering her mouth, Sh. We have to be quiet as we-
I stopped whispering as the banging stopped. I stood still in the same position.
We have to go,I said and I jumped into action.
I grabbed my clothes and I tossed them over what I was wearing. Ilsa soon realized what I was doing and she pounced as well. She threw a thicker jacket over her dress as I grabbed Little Ben. With Ben wrapped in my arms, my pocket knife in my pocket and Ilsa right behind me I ran to the door.
The door swung open and a group of men pushed me back inside. I was tripped and my back slammed against the floor, my head snapping back. Little Ben fell on top of me, his grip suddenly much tighter.
Miss I am so sorry for the intrusion, but are you aware of the Jew living here?I heard one of the men ask Ilsa.
I waited for her voice to reply when I heard someone elses.
Thats him officer! Thats the Jew. He stole from my very home. A German home. Jew! Jew! I spit on you!
Through the darkness, anger fueled my veins. The fop had returned. Anger at myself for not leaving earlier fueled the anger towards Viktor and I pushed myself up, leaving Little Ben sitting on the floor. I attacked him, pinning him to the floor with all of my strength. The Gestapo men around me started to hit me with their sticks on my back and my sides.
They eventually got me off of Viktor.
See, the Jew just tried to attack me,he said as he stood, Only God knows what he did to Ilsa while I wasnt here to protect her.
I watch him walk over to Ilsa and place his filthy hands on her arms.
Don't worry Ilsa, that Jew would not be able to hurt you any longer.
Anger flared to a new extent in my veins.
How dare he make such false claims about me!
I fought against the men holding me, causing another to hit me again in the right side.
Don't worry young sir,one of the Gestapo men said.
We will take this filthy Jew to where they all belong, said another.
Viktor wrapped an arm around Ilsas shoulders as he turned to face the Gestapo men. Ilsa just stood there, staring at me.
Don't forget the little one behind him as well,Viktor said, and I realized that he was referring to Little Ben.
All Jews must be removed from Germany in order for the Fhrer to make her strong again,Viktor said filled with pride.
I was about to lash out again before the Gestapo forced me out the door, and out the house, away from Ilsa. All I could hear was the faint sound of Little Ben’s whimpering behind me in the cold, dark streets.

June 2nd: Ilsa
I stood still in a state of shock. People were talking, Kurt was being held down, Little Ben was whimpering in a heap. Viktor was also in the room though I had no idea why. At one moment Kurt was attacking Viktor and then Kurt was being hit. Then Viktor had his arm wrapped around my shoulders, holding me against my will into his side. Then just as fast as it started, it ended and Kurt and Little Ben were gone.
I was left alone, Viktors arm still wrapped around my shoulders. His arm fell, his hand running down my back.
Finally...”    Where are they taking him!I demanded after turning around away from him.
    I dont know what...”
Enough,I shouted, interrupting him, You would not have sent them here if you did not know where they were going.
He opened his mouth to talk yet I interrupted him again.
I know that your brother is a member of the schutzstaffel so tell me!I shouted threatening.
He looked at me in defiance. His head thrown back, his chest puffed out like a chickens. I continued to glare at him.
Why do you even care?he asked.
    Because I love him.I stated.
He has tainted you. Brainwashed you into believing his Jewish lies,Viktor replied.
Hes not even a Jew. He is a German,I countered.    Viktor did not seem baffled by this at all,I know, but he will be taken to where the all of the other Jews are being taken to.” “Where?I urged.
You would not be able to get him out,he challenged. I will be damned if I dont,I encouraged.
And be called a Jew lover? Youll end up in prison.
Where are they taking him?I asked again.
A work camp in Poland,he said after a while, not moving.
Whats it called?I inquired, dread filling me.
    Auschwitz.”
